Soft Router R6S: The Textbook Definition of Overkill

🌱 创建: 2026/03/21 ⏱️ 更新: 2026/03/25

“When the designer added 8K 60P video output and an Edge Computing NPU to the RK3588S, he definitely didn’t expect its ultimate destiny would be silently dialing in a Homelabber’s rack.”

The FriendlyElec NanoPi R6S—a performance monster equipped with a powerful octa-core chip. In my Cyber Construction Site, its sole mission is to govern the lifeblood of the entire household’s traffic. Yes, I spent big bucks on an “Edge Computer” just to make Google pages load in a blink. It is, quite literally, using a cannon to swat a mosquito.

This is a router with an extremely distorted configuration; its computing power even crushes 90% of the thin-and-light office laptops on the market.

  • 🏷️ Codename: FriendlyElec NanoPi R6S (Metal Case Version)
  • 🧬 CPU: Rockchip RK3588S (Octa-core 64-bit) ——> A chip originally meant for AI visual recognition, now its daily routine involves parsing DNS and processing PPPoE packets.
  • 🧠 RAM: 8GB LPDDR4x ——> Ordinary routers can fly with 512MB; this one carries 8GB. After running all plugins, the memory usage doesn’t even touch the spare change.
  • 💾 Storage: 64GB eMMC + 16G SD Card ——> Dual storage configuration, completely overflowing. After installing iStoreOS, I stare at the vast empty space in deep contemplation.
  • 🌐 Network: 2.5G Port * 2 + 1G Port * 1 ——> The only parts that actually justify its identity as a “router”.
  • 🔌 Power & Accessories: 45W PD Power + A-to-A Cable ——> To tame this aggressive chip, even the power supply requires 45W PD fast charging. The electric meter starts to tremble slightly.

As the main gateway for the whole house, it doesn’t just dial; it also moonlights as a Docker host. Various traffic magics and ad-blocking services intertwine here—it’s the culprit behind the family’s “selective network outages.”

While SmartDNS can block ads, I run a separate AdGuardHome just to see its gorgeous query logs. Daily routine involves intercepting telemetry and occasionally nuking a perfectly normal webpage.
